Brent Dec 2026 settled $87.28 May 8. The structural expected value is $108. The market is implicitly weighting Eventual Resolution materially above 40% on a 6-12 month horizon, or Extended Degraded materially below, or both. None of those weights survive the May 7-8 tape.

Iranian officials called the leaked U.S. text a “wish-list” inside hours. Iran fired on three U.S. destroyers transiting the Strait on May 7. CENTCOM responded with strikes on Iranian military facilities. UAE absorbed Iranian missile and drone strikes across May 4-5 and again on May 8, including the major May 4 wave that hit the Fujairah Petroleum Industries Zone.

CENTCOM disabled three Iranian-flagged tankers across May 6 and May 8 under blockade enforcement. Project Freedom, the U.S. escort operation, was effectively halted May 5 by Saudi and Kuwaiti access restrictions, then publicly paused by Trump on May 6, with restrictions reportedly lifted by May 8 after a second Trump-MBS phone call. "Late to Hormuz" (May 6) merged a 6-12 month structural fair value with a 48-hour tactical scenario set and arrived at $85-93. The structural floor held. The tactical premise didn't. The two have no business sharing a number.
